Overview
Pokhara sits beside Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range rising to over 8000 metres directly behind, a combination of subtropical lake life and Himalayan grandeur found nowhere else. It is the starting point for the Annapurna Circuit, the Annapurna Base Camp trek and dozens of shorter hikes, as well as paragliding, rafting and ultralight flights over the mountains. Lakeside is the traveller quarter of guesthouses and restaurants, while the old bazaar retains a quieter Newari character. Costs are extremely low and the trekking infrastructure is among the best in the world.
