Overview
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE and the more measured sibling to Dubai, built on an island grid with wide corniche beaches and an enormous cultural investment programme. The Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque anchor a city that is increasingly about art, education and clean energy rather than only oil. Around eighty five percent of residents are foreign, so the expatriate experience is the default one. Salaries are tax free, the desert begins at the city edge, and family life is unusually comfortable. It is safer and slower than Dubai, which many people prefer.
